History
& Genealogy
I’d like to have a heart-warming story about a teacher instilling and
nurturing in me a deep and abiding love of history, but, alas, there is no such story.
My love of all things historical seems to be innate, with me since my earliest
days.
Some early proof of this lies in the fact that, as a girl of about six,
I, “Queen Victoria,” would sit on my throne (a pink velveteen chair),
wrapped in an ermine robe (a fake fur throw rug), bathed in jewels (my
grandmother’s paste), and accept homage from my subjects (my sister). Although I no longer do this (I would if I could, believe me),
my passion is now played out in other, more “mature,” ways…
History
There are few things I enjoy more than history, except perhaps combining history with my other passions of writing and travel, and spinning them into a fabulous story. What better way to teach the past than to put it into a form that makes people want to learn more?
I'm also always in the process of researching and writing any number of historical and history travel articles, as well as a bit of historical fiction here and there. I write both for myself and for publication, and have been published on a number of web sites, magazines and scholarly journals. One of these days, I might even finish a book-length project. Learning about one's genealogy is a never ending and always changing process, but it can lead to many interesting and unexpected discoveries. My research has led me not only into interesting discoveries on paper - such as a genealogical link between myself and King Louis XI of France - but also on a physical journey around England to see firsthand from where some of my ancestors once lived.
