The first stone of the Cathedral of Burgos was laid in 1221.
Today it is still a working cathedral and has been named a UNESCO "Cultural Monument of the World's Heritage."
In addition to the amazing craftsmanship of the building itself, the cathedral boasts such important features as the tomb of El Cid,
an outstandingly beautiful retablo (high altar) built in the 16th century, and an incredible number of religious art and artifacts.
"El Misterio de La Navidad" in the Cathedral of Burgos covers the entire life of Christ in miniature and takes up an entire large room.
One of the many beautiful coastal regions in Spain, the Costa Blanca is the home to many British and European expats.
The Peņon de Ifach in Calpe is an amazing rock formation second only to the rock of Gibraltar.
The Cristo del Otero, or "Christ on the Hill", is second only to the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro.
Contains, among other things, a particularly beautiful and historic tomb of the parents of Queen Isabel
(the Spanish queen who financed the explorations of Christopher Columbus) made of alabaster.
This is one of the largest and best preserved Roman villas in Spain. It boasts beautiful mosaic floors,
many largely intact, beautiful frescos and a clear indication of the original layout of the original structure.

In this photo, the remains of what was once a bathing room are clearly visible.
The tiny Church of San Juan de Baņos may be a mere dwarf compared to places like
Westminster Abbey and The Cathedral of Notre Dame, but considering it dates from 661, it is a marvel nonetheless.
Even at more than 1300 years old, the Church of San Juan de Baņos is still used
today
for religious services, including charming little wedding ceremonies.
