Tori Van Orden Martínez is a freelance non-fiction writer and editor, as well as an author of historical fiction. Working from her virtual office, she travels the world for both work and pleasure, taking on a diverse range of assignments and researching and writing both non-fiction and fiction on a variety of subjects and across many genres.
Her education in mass communications and a professional career that has spanned journalism, public relations and marketing, have provided her with a uniquely well-rounded base for the life of an independent writer. Throughout her career, Tori has written and published everything from marketing and promotional materials to ghostwritten executive by-lines to regular contributed columns to lighthearted travel anecdotes and features.
Her work has appeared in publications as diverse as Energy Markets, Women’s Enterprise, European Royal History Journal, Octopus Travel (Guides), The Unofficial Royal Family Pages, TimeTravel-Britain, Royalty Digest Quarterly, All Info About English Culture, All Info About British History, The Duke and Duchess of Windsor Society Newsletter, Tales from a Small Planet, and Pictures & Stories.
Tori’s experience with publications began in college when she served for two years on the staff of The Lasso, the Texas Woman's University newspaper, starting as a staff writer, reporting on various beats and writing her own weekly column, then continuing her tenure as entertainment editor and, finally, editor-in-chief.
Following college, she served as editor of the National Business News for the National Business Association, ensuring that a quality bi-monthly magazine was produced and sent to thousands of association members. Most recently, Tori has served as the editor-in-chief for the Women’s Enterprise family of magazines, including Women’s Enterprise Texas, a tabloid-sized monthly, and Women’s Enterprise USA, a quarterly glossy magazine.
In the corporate arena, Tori has practiced and refined her tactical and practical skills in a wide range of public relations and marketing positions. In addition to communications experience in the healthcare and cosmetic industries, Tori worked for several years in the high-tech sector, where she held senior positions in both the agency and corporate environments.
While at such public relations agencies as Publicis Dialog and Springbok Technologies, her clients ranged from high-profile corporations like Nortel Networks, Nestle and Carter-Wallace (Trojan Condoms), to small start-ups in all sectors.
Tori graduated with honors from Texas Woman's University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications, specializing in public relations. She also earned a Master of Science degree in Applied Technology, Training and Development from the University of North Texas, where the topic of her master's thesis was entitled "The Efficacy of Media Training for Corporate Executives."
